The word “depression” is among the most used psychological terms among the people in daily life. People describe depression in general as a state of intense unhappiness, loss of excitement, and hopelessness when talking about the future.

Depression; It is a mood disorder characterized by intense sadness, loss of interest in activities, and often extreme feelings of guilt or worthlessness. Individuals experiencing depression are in a constant state of restlessness and anxiety, with the problems of not fulfilling the responsibilities they have taken and postponing their new decisions. They stay away from the outside world in their bilateral human relations, choose environments where they can stay on their own and may not be able to provide self-care. They feel a sense of helplessness and hopelessness for their own lives and the people around them, and they constantly think negatively.

Depression is among the most common cases, it can sometimes disappear and sometimes recur. In general, individuals with depression tend to be stuck with feelings of worthlessness, guilt, and self-blame for past failures. If we talk about what triggers a person to experience depression, there are risk factors such as job loss, loss of parents, alcohol and substance use, divorce, financial inadequacy, traumatic events in childhood and adulthood, hormonal changes and genetic transitions. Depression is common in childhood, adolescence and old age.

The most common symptoms of depression are sleep problems, but there may be difficulty falling asleep or sleeping excessively. Another among the symptoms is that they try to improve their mood by either not eating at all or overeating because they constantly feel unhappy.

It is necessary to make plans by identifying the problems that cause you to become depressed during the treatment process. In order to eliminate the pessimism of the person, one should not break away from the social environment. He should pay attention to a healthy and balanced diet. He should set minimal goals for the work he can do daily. In the psychotherapy process, by ensuring that the feeling of uneasiness and intense helplessness experienced by the individual disappears, support can be provided in order to purify the individual from thoughts that affect him negatively and negatively, and to increase his communication skills with his environment.
